An introduction to Paulina Duczman

Who am I?

I was born in a small seaside town in North-west Poland in 1983 and moved to the UK in 2006 with my husband.

I am a mother to 3 wonderful children. I live for my family first and foremost.

After them, photography is my next love and passion.

I began my photography journey in 2014 and knew, instantly, that photography was the career that I wanted to pursue from that moment forward…

Since then I have been on a thrilling journey; learning as much as I can about photography, developing my own unique style, perfecting my skills and growing my photography portraiture and training business.

It is both my job and my hobby – it’s what I love to do each and every day. That’s why I am so passionate about my work, particularly black and white photography which is what I love doing the most.

What am I like as a person? Well, I push myself extremely hard to always be the very best I can be, and I am always striving to improve my photography. I am bubbly, funny and a joyful person – which is why sometimes people can’t understand why my black and white photography is so ‘moody’.

Who or what influences me?

My parents used to run an antique restoration shop in Poland, so for most of my childhood, I was surrounded by baroque furniture and Victorian style paintings. I think it was so deep-rooted in me that without even realising, elements of that style started appearing in my photography.

From the beginning, I was drawn to painterly pictures, moody scenery and deep rich tones. It was just a matter of time, I think, before all these influences came together and I created my own unique style.

Music is also a great influence on me, and I love listening to music as I edit my photography.

How I define my photography style

My photography has been described as captivating, striking, dramatic, graceful and timeless.

I describe it as fine art portrait photography which captures the soul of the person I am photographing. I achieve that by capturing the eyes of my subject.

Such a powerful connection is created between me, the photographer, and the subject, if they look intensely into the camera. The result literally leaves me speechless!

How I create my images

To create my photography, I use both sources of light – natural and studio. I love playing with light and shadows.
